A Time To Rest

by | Apr 14, 2016

Mark 6:31
And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going and they had no leisure even to eat.

Why do we push ourselves until there is just nothing left? This verse made me think of when all 3 of my children were little and people used to ask me how I was so thin having had 3 children. Well, first of all, I was married to a Marine and let me tell you, he knew some crazy exercises, but the big thing was that I never seemed to have time to eat. When I did have time to eat, one of them would see it and would want it and it was easier to give them mine than to make another one. The life of a young mom……. Well, now that I am older and my children are not eating my food, I still find myself running and running until I drop into bed exhausted at the end of the day, totally spent most days. The sad thing is that I don’t have anyone around to eat my food so now I have to add in watching my weight to the list of things to do! In fact we had company spend a weekend not too long ago and I never realized that I really don’t even sit down most of the time because I am just always on the lookout for something that I may need to do, until they mentioned it!

As it says in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:” Maybe we need to add a couple lines for today:
A time to sweep ~ A time to sit
A time to feed ~ A time to eat
A time to let them play soccer ~ A time to say “no” to one more lesson or sport
A time to serve ~ A time for a date and be served
A time to bathe ~ A time to take a nice long bath
A time to clean ~ A time to sit and enjoy your baby and let the dust go
A time to work ~ A time to spend time with your elderly parents before that isn’t an option
A time to be busy like Martha ~ A time to sit at the feet of Jesus in His Word and learn

You fill in your “A time to…..” but let’s all start doing our best to put more balance into our lives! Let’s learn to come apart and rest for a while, it is vital to your well being! You will burn out if you just keep pushing and don’t take time to replenish yourself! God doesn’t expect you to run yourself into the ground; do what you can and let Him do the rest! The best is yet to come!
