Psalm 127:1
Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards they city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Have you ever gotten so caught up in all that you are doing and working for that you somehow miss out on allowing God to lead your house? Unless we allow God to lead in all that we do in our homes we are laboring in vain. God needs to be the center of all that we do in order to find His blessing on it. Sometimes you may work so hard on something and then wonder why it never turned out but you never really consulted God about it. Or maybe you asked Him about the areas you wanted to ask Him but did it in your own time. Or maybe there was sin in your life that hadn’t been dealt with even though you knew you couldn’t have the blessing of God on what you were doing if you didn’t deal with that first. Whatever the case may be we need to always allow God to lead and guide us in all that we are doing or our labor is in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” There are times we can get discouraged when we are doing something for God and we don’t see any benefits or results but according to this verse your labor is not in vain. God is moving and He will bring the results in His time, your job is to just do what He has called you to and leave the results to Him. I have known pastors that thought if they weren’t preaching at a huge church they somehow were not as important as a preacher that was. Seriously? So, who is supposed to preach in those small town churches then? Any call of God you have on your life should not be based just on numbers. We are called to focus on God and do our best for Him as if we could see Him standing by our side as we do it and we are always supposed to leave the results to Him. As we grow in Him we learn to worry less about the results and we can focus more on doing our best.

Our labor in life is important and no matter what the job is in or out of the home we are called to focus on God and make sure our “labors” are for Him and guided by Him. Think for a bit today on all that you are focused on – why are you doing it, who are you doing it for and are you doing it all for the right reasons and with the right attitudes? Ask God today to show you any changes you may need to make and to guide you and your household in all that you do.
