Are You Feeling a Bit Overwhelmed Today

by | Mar 24, 2020

Psalm 69:1-3. Save me, O God!  For the waters have come up to my neck.  I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me.  I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched.  My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.

Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed today?  Does it feel as though no matter where you turn you just can’t seem to catch your breath before something else comes along?  My sister Jean and I were having this conversation one day as I was walking around the yard picking up the kid’s balls that they play with on the trampoline because the wind was blowing and I didn’t want them to blow away.  Well, the wind was blowing hard enough that they couldn’t just be thrown over the top of the net so I was shoving them through the door and even though the wind was not blowing toward the door it seemed as though every time I turned to grab a new ball another one would come back out the door!  I couldn’t help but laugh but the activity certainly fit the conversation!

I know that with the Coronavirus craziness trying to maintain some order in your life can be a challenge, but stop for a minute and ask God for His wisdom and strength.  Don’t miss out on your time with Him!  If you are blessed with children and are struggling to find some alone time with Him then you will have to get intentional.  If you are a morning person, maybe you can get up a half-hour early and if you are a night person before you turn on that tv or clean the house, take a half-hour alone with God.  Other things can wait, but you need time alone with Him in order to bring balance to your home!  Now is a great time to grow in your relationship with Him and to teach your children as well!

Don’t allow your life to become so crazy with being busy that you miss out on time with God, family, and friends and taking care of yourself.  It is so easy these days to get caught up in everything that needs to be done and the craziness of the world.  If there is one thing satan loves to do it is to get you so overwhelmed that your focus is on everything but God!  When we become overwhelmed with life it isn’t because God put too much there ~ think about it for a minute…….  it may be time for some Spring Cleaning in your to-do list!  It may be time to say “no” to taking on any new tasks or get rid of some of the old to make way for new things God has for you.  I often find I get the most frustrated when I am the one who has overextended myself and have said “yes” to too many people and things!  My daughter Danielle was upset one day because she was tired of watching other people’s children all the time and I told her that the answer was quite simple; start saying, “no”.  Don’t get upset with others because of your own decision to overextend yourself.  Believe me, this is a message for me as well!

We also have to take into consideration here too that sometimes we are overwhelmed but not because of anything we have done wrong.  I am not a “demon under every rock” kind of thinker but satan will push every button you have to try to get your focus off and to keep you away from what you are called to do and to discourage you in your walk with God.  If you are doing what you are called to do and there seems to be one explosion after the next all around you and attack against you stop and take a deep breath and remind yourself of Who God is and how much He cares!  Tell satan to “hush!”  Refresh yourself by spending even just a few minutes alone with God in prayer or read some Psalms or listening to some praise and worship music.  God loves you more than words can say so don’t allow satan to drag you down into the mire, keep your feet on the solid ground of God’s word!  Hold on with all your might to verses like this one, “But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.  At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.” Psalm 69:13  Make sure you read that with the punctuation ~ if you read that right, he is trusting that God will answer in an acceptable time because of His steadfast love and faithfulness.  God will get you through to the other side if you will just hold on, trust Him and remain faithful in all that you do!
