Are You Focusing on God or The Problem?

Proverbs 23:7    For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

What are you thinking about this morning?  I am not talking about your plans for the day, I am asking what is the main thing that consumes your thoughts day and night?  Is it God, is it your family, is it a project you are working on, is it your marriage, is it a mountain of a problem that you fear will never go away?  What is at the heart of your thoughts today?  We need to be careful that we don’t squeeze God out because we are too wrapped up in the area we need Him most in.

It is easy to get so consumed with something that it takes priority over focusing on our priorities especially God.  I find it is really easy to do that when the focus is a problem; my thoughts can become so consumed with the problem that I don’t give it to God and it becomes even more of a problem in my life.  I have watched as a problem, project or object of desire can become so prominent in someone’s life that it becomes who they are.  Without the problem, project or object they seem to have nothing, how sad because all we are should be found in God.

My goal for today is to start really paying attention to what my thoughts are; am I focusing on God or the problem, am I thinking positive or allowing negative thoughts to defeat my day, am I moving forward in life or am I looking back at what should have been, am I working on being more Christlike or am I trying to fix everyone around me, am I sitting around wondering what I should be doing or am I doing it, am I thinking of useful ways to be a blessing to others or am I having a pity party?  You get the idea!  I am determined to make today and everyday count by taking my thought life captive and making it work for me instead of against me!  It is not something that typically comes natural to any of us it is something we all need to work on.

It is so easy for life to take over and we find ourselves just trying to keep our heads above the water as we get swept away.  It’s time to take hold of our thoughts and stand up mid stream and make a difference in the direction our lives are headed.  You can choose to allow your life to continue down the crazy wild river of life or you can choose to battle the current and have the victory you are called to have, it really is your choice and it begins with your thought life.  Your words and thoughts are powerful things and we need to start speaking what should be, not what is and we must first have the thought. I would encourage you to think about any areas you are overwhelmed or consumed in and give it to God and ask Him to show you what your priorities and thoughts should be, then work on consuming yourself with Him, He will bring everything else together.
