2 Corinthians 10:5b
“and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”

It is so important to take your thoughts captive! You have to be intentional about what you allow yourself to dwell on. Our thoughts become us. What you think ~ you are, at some point. The silly thing is that if there is one thing in our lives that we can learn to control and be successful in it, it is our thought process! You have a choice what you think!

One reason it can be so difficult to lose weight and keep it off is because you have to change your mental image of yourself in order for your brain to allow you to lose the weight and keep it off. I am working on losing weight and one of the things I do is repeat an affirmation of “I enjoy weighing ….” several times a day. What I have found in the past when I have done this, if I am consistent with the affirmation and my efforts, is that it is almost like one day my brain kicks in to say, “oh no, she thinks she weighs …., we have to do something because that doesn’t quite measure up!” It isn’t some hocus pocus thing really, it is just that I am changing my mental picture of myself to match where I want to be. The same goes for anything else. You have to see yourself in that new position at work in order to achieve that promotion, you have to see yourself celebrating being debt free in order to have the drive and discipline to accomplish it!

On another note; our thoughts are also what can draw us into sinful behaviors. Sin is very seldom done without a thought process first. Cheating on your spouse isn’t something that you just all of a sudden find yourself doing, there was a thought process first. Before you would ever steal a pair of shoes from the store the thought process was there. Controlling those thoughts that could lead you to sin is something you have to be intentional about! Fill your mind with scripture to keep your thoughts pure. Turn on praise and worship music, it is sort of difficult to plot out sin against God while you praise Him! Thoughts to do wrong usually start out small and seemingly insignificant, but when you dwell on them they can grow into something you never dreamed you were capable of! Be very careful where you allow your thoughts to take you! Believe me, Satan is much more eager to help these thoughts to grow versus thoughts that will benefit you ~ don’t let him win!

Start today being intentional in your thought process! Take inventory and see what thoughts maybe need to be thrown out and replaced with a new truth from God! Focus on Him and all He has planned for your life! The best is yet to come!
