Be Kind Today and Everyday – Kindness is a Choice

by | Jul 11, 2012

Ephesians 4:32

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Kindness seems to be a rarity these days.  I have lived and visited places where you are looked upon as strange if you so much as say “hi” to a person on the street let alone perform any genuine act of kindness.  I have actually taken great pleasure on occasion in those situations to just say “hi” and smile at everyone just to see their reaction. Some people look like they think you must be mentally challenged for you to say anything to someone you don’t know and of course that just cracks me up!

Why is it acts of kindness are so rare?  Have we really become so self absorbed that we can’t take a moment to just be kind?  When is the last time you did something for no other reason than just to be kind OR when is the last time someone did something for you?  Little acts of kindness are ways to show the love of Christ and typically will bring you as much pleasure as it does the other person.  You may be the only “Jesus” that person sees today.

I remember back in the day when the women’s “revolution” stormed the nation and women wouldn’t even allow a man to open a door for them.  WOW what a disservice they did to all women of the future.  Men should be kind and treat women with respect and honor them in their behavior.  Before all of that most men wouldn’t have even used fowl language in front of women. Don’t get me wrong, there were good things that came from standing up for women’s rights but some of them took it too far, we aren’t men and I personally don’t want to be treated like I am one.  The Bible is clear that men are to look out for, be kind to and protect women, not to look down on them or treat them as inferior but honor them in all that they do.

Think about it today and look for opportunities to show a little kindness to someone.  It could be as simple as helping an elderly person put their groceries in their car at the grocery store or maybe even just saying “hi’ and smiling.  Whatever it is look for it and take a moment to bless someone else in Jesus name today.

Quote:  “Graciousness is more than good manners.  It is more than courtesy.  It is the etiquette of the soul.  True graciousness has such a divine quality we feel it is something that comes through us and not from us.”  Fred Smith
