Believe God’s Promises and Wait On Him

Genesis 15:2-6. But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”  And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring and a member of my household will be my heir.”  And behold, the word of the Lord came to him:  “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.”  And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and number the stars, if you are able to number them.”  Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”  And he believed the Lord and He counted it to him as righteousness.

So, Abram believed God!  He was getting old and he hadn’t had any children, but when God told him he would, he believed!  It all seems simple enough: God told Him and Abram believed God!  Then a few years later, here comes Sarai, his wife to add in her two cents:

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children.  She had a female Egyptian servant whose name was Hagar.  And Sarai said to Abram, “Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children.  Go into my servant; it may be that I shall obtain children by her.”  And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. (Genesis 16:1-2) Ladies, we really need to be careful that we don’t interfere with God’s plan by intervening and injecting our ideas unless those ideas are straight from God!  Obviously, Sarai’s idea was not God’s!  She decided that they had waited long enough for God to give them a child, after all, they were getting really old, but that wasn’t God’s plan!  God is never going to fulfill His plan for your life with something that is against all that He says in His word!  The last thing you want to do is get in God’s way or ahead of His plan!  If God has revealed His will for your family through your husband then be careful.  Don’t get in a rush and discourage your spouse from believing God has a perfect plan to bring about all He has said He will do!  I really believe we are missing out on so much simply because we aren’t “believing God” enough!  We want everything right now!  We want Him to fix all those things that make us uncomfortable instead of growing up through those experiences!

Now, I know we have a few men who read this as well and I just have to say here that God wants you to be bold in your faith!  God wants you to lead your family!  God wants you to believe Him and listen to Him above everyone else!  Abram should not have listened to Sarai any more than Adam should have allowed Eve to lead in eating the fruit!  I am by no means saying that men shouldn’t listen to their wives, but what she says must line up with scripture and you should both be praying together and spending time with God together so you are on the same page.  There is nothing more attractive to a woman than a godly man!  A man who loves God more than he loves her!  A man who lives to be all that God has called Him to be!  God is seriously looking for some good men who will stand for what is right, who won’t cheat on their families, men who will fight against all the attacks of Satan that are trying to draw him into things that are not of God!  You can be that man!

(13 Years later)  Genesis 17:17-19, Then Abraham (God changed their names to Abraham and Sarah) fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old?  Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”  And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”  God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac.  I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.”  God has a plan, (Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”)  His plan may seem impossible and unrealistic, but they are His plans and nothing is too difficult for the Lord!  It doesn’t matter if you are single or married, man or woman, God has a plan!  If you want His best then you need to wait for His plan!  Serve Him where you are and don’t be persuaded by Satan that God isn’t really going to do what He said He will do.  Certainly, don’t believe the lie that somehow God needs you to come up with a plan because He hasn’t thought of one! I can’t even begin to tell you how many times in my life that I have been told in a given situation that I need to have a plan; sometimes that is true and other times it really comes down to waiting on God.  If you are truly following God then when it is time for a “plan” He will reveal it to you and He will provide the direction.  If you are single, don’t get so desperate for a man that you take the first one that comes along if you aren’t certain that He is the one God has for you!  God’s best is found in His plan!  God’s best is found in waiting for Him!  Trust God today and believe Him!  Know that He has a plan even if you can’t see it right now.  Wait on Him and truly His best is yet to come!
