Don’t Make God Drag You!

Genesis 19:16  With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished.” When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the LORD was merciful to them.

I loved it when I heard Joyce Meyer say that she made the comment one day that she had been walking with the Lord for 20 years and the Holy Spirit said, “20 Years?  You have walked with me for 2 years, I dragged you the other 18!”  Sometimes God has to drag us out of our own will for our own good.  Here Lot was dawdling when God was getting ready to destroy the city.  He was warned and yet was still in no hurry to obey.  How often do we see the warning signs from God in our lives and we choose to ignore them or postpone obeying them?  Maybe it’s gossiping or nit-picking other people or maybe we are married or in a serious relationship and still have other friends that are guys that we talk to when we get upset.  We have to be careful, when God gives us that little poke to say, “be careful” or “don’t go there” we need to listen and obey right away.

So often I’ve heard people say that they feel as though God is just sitting there waiting to pounce when they do something wrong, but I believe these verses would prove that theory wrong.  God is loving and does want what is best for us on every level and He promises to give us a way to escape sin.  God is so gracious and loving and kind and is always eager to help us escape the devastation in our lives if we will listen and obey.
