Don’t Settle For Where You Are

by | May 18, 2020

Philippians 1:6. And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

He is still working on you!  If you are still here, God isn’t finished with you yet.  This verse brings to mind the song I taught my kids when they were little; “He’s still working on me, to make me what I ought to be.  It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars, the sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars.  How loving and patient He must be, He’s still working on me!”  I taught them that not just for their benefit but for mine as well, to remind me on those tough days as a Mom that I couldn’t expect them to be perfect any more than I would want God to expect me to be perfect.

Here’s a thought; He’s still working on you but are you workable?  Are you eager to allow God to work in your life to make you what you ought to be or are you settling for where you are?  Do you look at certain things in your life and say, “well, that’s just the way that I am” or do you ask God to work in you to change the things you know you need to change?  God would love to work in your life to help you become all He created you to be, the choice is up to you as to whether or not you are going to let Him.

If there are areas you have struggled with over the years or you have made some serious mistakes don’t lose heart because God isn’t finished with you yet!  God can always make something beautiful out of anything and anyone if we allow Him to work in our lives!  Nothing and no one is hopeless because God is God and He will continue until we are with Him in Heaven.  There are no mistakes you could have made that He cannot use in your life to make you more like Him and to help you to fulfill your God-given purpose.  I do think there are times that we may miss out on the opportunities that we could have had by making wrong choices, but God can still use a moldable person if they allow Him to.  It may not be what it would have been but with God’s help, He can always make it something amazing!

Now, what about you?  If God is still working on you, are you still working on you?  Are you still doing what you need to do to become all that you can be?  Do you spend time in His Word?  Are you involved in your local church?  If you need counseling are you looking for it?  Are you asking God to show you areas you need to work on?  It would be great if we could just pray for those changes to take place and ‘poof’ we are changed, but it doesn’t work that way.  The best way for those changes to come about is for you to pursue the change instead of God having to put circumstances and sometimes ‘crazy people’ in your life to bring about that change.  Trust me, I have done both and it is better to look at whatever it is you need to change and throw yourself into working on changing it.  It’s sort of like what I used to tell my children when they weren’t getting along well and they were little, “work this  out because if I have to get involved it probably isn’t going to be as pleasant.”

Don’t ever settle for where you are, God hasn’t ~ He’s still working on you!
