Don’t Take Things Into Your Own Hands

Genesis 15:6  And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

God told Abram that he would have as many offspring as the number of stars in the sky and Abram believed him.  Now, know that wasn’t the end of it, Abram still had a few questions even though he believed; when God told him all of the land he would inherit for his offspring Abram wanted to know how he would know that and when Sarai gave him her servant girl instead of saying “no”, he took her as a wife as well and had Ishmael instead of waiting on God to give him his son Isaac through Sarai.

So, Abram, whose name was changed to Abraham, even though he believed and it was counted to him for righteousness, found himself one day having to explain why he had taken a few detours along the way while he was waiting on God.  Have you ever felt that way?  Do you know in your heart that God has a plan and that He has something for you but it isn’t here yet and you are wondering how you can really know that it will come, that He hasn’t forgotten you?  Please, let me encourage you to ask Him, don’t move forward with plans to “help Him along”, continue to press forward in the direction He has called you but ask Him to show you how you will know His plan and His timing.  The closer the time gets the harder it is to wait on Him because we get a bit antsy, but it will be worth the wait so just persevere.

Sarah’s handoff to Hagar to be another wife of Abraham didn’t interfere with God’s original plan but it did add grief to their lives that didn’t have to be there and for generations to come!  Anytime we “add to” God’s plan we bring on grief and struggles we don’t need.  Wait on God and ask all the questions you need to ask, but don’t move forward without Him.  When His time comes and you know in your heart that it is time to proceed then jump in with both feet and allow Him to do all He has planned.  Just because you are not working yet on what He has called you to, doesn’t mean He isn’t working on it!

Story:  One day Amy had a day full of things she needed to accomplish; their house was on the market and there were people scheduled to come to see it at 1 o’clock so she needed to clean it to perfection! She also needed to bake some cookies for her daughter Lissa’s Christmas program, the program started at 8 that evening and she needed to run to the grocery store to pick up a few things before she made dinner and oh yeah, Lissa needed a new pair of shoes for the program as well.  Lissa kept asking when they would make the cookies because she so desperately wanted to help with them and Amy had promised she could.  Amy explained that she had a lot to do and she would let her know when she was ready.  She asked Lissa to make sure her room was clean and then read a book or watch a Christmas movie until the time came while Amy cleaned.  Amy worked hard and moved from room to room starting in the kitchen and working her way through the house, she had decided to have lunch out with Lissa and go to the grocery store and shoe store all in one fell swoop so the house could be shown.  The real estate agent had called and asked if they could move their appointment up to noon because his clients had decided to leave town early due to the weather and Amy just made the adjustment to her schedule, it was 11;30 they could just leave in 15 minutes and still accomplish everything then she walked into the kitchen……… Lissa had decided to help by getting everything out to start making the cookies…………..

Are you Lissa today?  Don’t get impatient and create another mess for God while you are waiting.  He is working even if you can’t see it right now.  Follow Him, ask Him but don’t move on your own until He says the time is right!  The best is yet to come but don’t get ahead of Him!
