Getting Together to Worship is Important

Hebrews 10:24-26

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Why is it that Satan likes to attack us about going to church on Sunday?  I saw an article one day that one of our staff had posted on our website thinking that the woman was talking about winning the battle over not always wanting to attend church but in reality she was talking about winning the victory over NOT going to church and feeling guilty.  To her if she went a couple times a year that was good and she really didn’t see any need for more than that because her life was too busy and spending time at home doing the things she loved was more important.

Now, let me clarify something here as well; I don’t think that you have to be in church “12” times a week (a little exaggeration there) but I do feel that it is very important to take the time on Sunday morning and then if you have a life group or Bible study or maybe both you can get involved in that is definitely going to benefit.  Here is what needs to be done:  Pray about it and ask God what His desire for you is, seek His face on this and ask Him to give you a firm conviction on how many services you are to attend.  I attended a church in Northern MI where the preacher felt that it was best to only have Sunday morning services on Sundays and then we had multiple support groups services and Life group on Wednesdays and then Bible Studies for Men or Women throughout the week because he felt it was important to spend Sunday afternoon resting and enjoying your family.  Our church grew like wildfire and there were always people getting saved and baptized and you could feel the presence of God and see the blessing of God on the church.  Our pastor had sought God and followed His lead on what God felt was important and that is exactly what we all need to do.  If you can’t figure it out yet then just go until you can see God is working in you on every level.

I just happened to think about all of this last night when I had this thought run through my head of; wouldn’t it just be nice to sit at home in the morning and enjoy the peace and quiet and relax, after all it has been a very hectic week?  My very next thought was NO, get thee behind me Satan! Our church service is only a couple hours long and I love and enjoy being there!  Satan likes to throw out the idea to everyone on occasion that it’s ok to just take this time for you.  Why does it seem that staying home from church would be so much more relaxing than taking two hours off from going out shopping and enjoying the peace and quiet?  It is strange but he does paint the picture as something that is “good for you”.

Everyone misses church on occasion but these verses are talking about forsaking going, in other words it is like the woman in the article, going was more rare than skipping church.  It is good for us to hang out with other believers to be encouraged and to worship God.  God isn’t going to strike you dead or forsake you if you miss church here or there because of vacation or other things that come up, but I do believe with all my heart that it is God’s desire for us to make assembling ourselves together a priority in our lives, not only for our sake but for the sake of others as well!
