Guard My Heart From What?

Proverbs 4:23
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

I have heard this verse used several times in regards to relationships but this verse is telling us to guard our hearts from so much more than that! If you guard your heart like it tells you to in this chapter your relationships will be in line with all else God has for you.

Keep your heart or as one translation says to guard your heart. What do you need to guard your heart from?

I would suggest that the first thing you need to understand what to guard your heart from and how to guard it is the wisdom from God that we find by reading His word! The more time you spend learning about God and who you are in Him, the more wisdom you will have for life. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” Ask Him to give you the wisdom you need for any situation and He has promised to give it to you!

Guard your heart from Satan’s lies! He is so set on keeping you from all that God has in store for you so He attacks with lies from Hell to keep you from fully grasping who you are in Christ! God created you with a purpose and Satan will do everything He can to keep you from that! He will tell you that you have messed up too many times in order for God to ever use you ~ replace that lie with these verses: Philippians 3:13-14, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I Press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” There’s nothing you could have done that Jesus blood couldn’t cover so ask for forgiveness and then take His direction to become all He created you to be! He will tell you that you are not qualified, but the more you read His word you will realize that everyone He chose seemed to be the least likely to be chosen; Moses, David, Esther, Rahab, Paul, Peter, the list goes on and on. As the old saying goes, “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called!”

Guard your heart by filling it with God’s word: Joshua 1:8, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” And, Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Allow God to lead you in all that you do.

Matthew 15:19, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness blasphemies.” Guard your heart! Find your peace in Him! Reject Satan’s lies and hold on to the truth of God! Allow Him to fill you with His truth and guide you in all that you do!
