Deuteronomy 29: 18b-19
Beware lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit, one who when he hears the words of this sworn covenant, blesses himself in his heart, saying ‘I shall be safe though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.’ This will lead to the sweeping away of moist and dry alike.

Yes, we live in the day of God’s grace, but we are still called to be holy because He is holy! (Leviticus 11:45) Pretending to have a close walk with God doesn’t fool God and in the end really doesn’t fool anyone else! What is in your heart shines through at some point, so why not strive to be more like God instead of living in rebellion or stubbornness. Living in sin will leave open doors for Satan to attack everything and everyone else in your life and seriously, what is worth all of that?

Maybe it isn’t you, but it is someone you love or care about that you know is choosing to head down the wrong path. The best thing you can do is pray for that other person and do your best to be the example that God has called you to be. You cannot make them want to change, but you can encourage them to make things right. If they refuse to confess what is going on and they choose to live in rebellion, just continue to pray but don’t get dragged down with them. Focus on God and know that it is His will for them to get their hearts right as well, but we all have choices to make in our life time and unfortunately it is obvious even in these verses above, that this has been a problem since way back then. If you know someone who is genuinely looking for restoration and they have turned around, make sure they are getting the help they need to be all they can be for Him! (Galatians 6:1)

If you have an area you are struggling with and you just feel you are beyond hope, remember this verse, 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God is eager to forgive and move forward to help you become all you can be for Him! He loves you and wants to walk through life with you. He won’t force you to, but He certainly will be there if you choose Him!

In a world where things all seem to be turning upside down, with right being wrong and wrong being right, it is time to be a light! We need to turn our hearts toward God and allow Him to direct us in all that we do! No, it isn’t the “law of God” that justifies us, it is believing in Jesus and accepting Him as your savior, but that doesn’t eliminate God’s rules for how to live. It doesn’t leave you free to choose to live an ungodly life and if you are truly His, you shouldn’t want to live that way, you should want to live a life that pleases Him. You should want to be more like Him everyday! Know that God loves you and wants His best for you, but it is up to you to make right choices every day so you can have that close relationship with Him.
