Genesis 39: 11-16
But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house, she called to the men of her household and said to them, “See, he has brought among us a Hebrew to laugh at us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. And as soon as he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and fled and got out of the house.” Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home,

Joseph was being faithful to God and yet he was falsely accused and sent to prison for something he never did. All the while he was in prison though he still remained faithful. Potiphar’s wife was wicked, she wanted revenge because she wasn’t getting her way and she didn’t care if she destroyed a man’s life in the process. Sad to say there are still people like that. They spread vicious rumors about other people, not caring the damage that is done and in fact don’t even care whether or not the rumors are true. Why? Don’t buy lies about someone else, seek the truth. Whatever you do, don’t be the one spreading the lies. Remember Matthew 12:36, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” Before you continue that rumor you may want to find out if there is any truth to it. Be very careful that you are not hindering the work of God with these rumors!

If you are Joseph in this case and you are not the one who is spreading the lies, but you are the victim of it, I would encourage you to remain faithful to God. God will bless you for your faithfulness, just like He did Joseph. Oh, you may not see the blessing right away, look at the whole story of Joseph, he was in prison for years, but your day will come! Your God is faithful and He will deliver you just like He did Joseph. He loves you and you can’t do anything to make people stop believing or telling lies, but trust me, their day is coming too! A day of reckoning for all they have said and done and that day won’t be pretty. You just hold on to your faith in God and you remain faithful to all He has called you to. Trust me, I know how much it hurts when you just can’t seem to get people to believe the truth (I guess to some, rumors just seem so much more exciting or something) and stop holding hands with Satan as they spread their gossip. God sees though and He will take care of it and He will see you through and you can count on this, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” We can’t change what others think or say, but we can hold on to the one who can! God is faithful and He has your back!

So Ladies, let’s choose to walk as godly women. If you are the one being wronged, hold on to your faith in Him and walk accordingly, He will deliver you! If you are the one buying and spreading the lies, ask yourself what it is about that other person that you feel so threatened by that you feel the need to spread lies. Don’t mistake though the idea that we are also called to hold each other accountable. If there is something that needs to be brought to light in order for there to be healing and restoration we are called to go to that person in love and encourage them into restoration and to walk right with God. We aren’t doing anyone any good by hiding sin. God’s fullness and blessing comes through open honesty and hearts that are bent on following Him. Please let me encourage you today to be all you can be for Him so we can all better serve Him!

“Graciousness is more than good manners. It is more than courtesy. It is the etiquette of the soul. True graciousness has such a divine quality we feel it is something that comes though us and not from us.” ~ Fred Smith
