Hope and Encouragement Comes from the Word of God

Deuteronomy 6:4-9   “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

How seriously do you really take the Word of God?  How much does it affect your life and how much do you dwell on what He says?  I know we all take God’s Word seriously to a degree but somehow I don’t feel as though we dwell on it the way we should.

What affect do you think it would have on our lives if our main focus was the Word of God?  What would it do for our level of faith?  How would it affect the words that come out of our mouths, or our attitudes and the way we treat those around us?

Life becomes hopeless when we forget all that God has done and what He will do for our future.  We have all been there at some point when we forget how God has brought us through our past and we end up discouraged about our future as though He is somehow just going to be absent.  God’s word tells us that His love never fails us & He is an ever present help in times of trouble and the list goes on and on and on.  What if those words were what our focus was and they were on our hearts and we were diligently teaching them to our children and we talked about those thoughts when we sat in our houses and walked down the street and we we were lying down and when we got up?  What if The Word was so powerful in our lives that it seemed as though we had them written everywhere we turned?  How much would it change our lives?

So think about it this morning:  Are you a dabbler in the Word, is there more room for focus?  We are all consumed with our every day lives and I certainly know first hand how out of control some days can be but it’s time to take spending time alone with God a little more seriously.  Think about Him, focus on all He has done in your past and allow His promises to fill your heart with the hope and encouragement you need for today.  Don’t focus on your problems, focus on Him and all He has to say ~ it will change your life.
