Keep Your Eyes On Him!

1 Samuel 2: 2-3   “There is none holy as the Lord; for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.  Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogances come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.”

When we see God for who he is it tends to take away any prideful and disrespectful attitude we might have floating around.   I remember one time years ago seeing my cousin go through her divorce and just thinking oh, if that were me I wouldn’t act like she is.  I was just so “spiritual” at the time, that I couldn’t see that she was acting out because of her hurt of her divorce!  Boy, did I ever pay for that judgmental attitude down the road!  We should only compare ourselves to Christ, then we will see ourselves as we really are.  If we look around at people and base our attitudes and behaviors on them we will never grow up spiritually and we will continuously pay for judging others.

God has called us to be like HIM, not better than or less than our neighbor! You can always find someone who behaves worse than you do, but if you keep looking you will also find those that behave better, that is why we need to keep our eyes on Christ!  Just be the best you, God created you to be.  As you continue reading in the book of 1 Samuel there are several verses like18:14 where it says that “David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him.”  That is what I want, is for my behavior to be something worth the Lord wanting to be around.  The last thing I want is for God instead of Satan to be the one that says, “oh no, she’s awake.”   I have found it takes self discipline and effort and apparently years of practice but that is my daily goal  so when my actions are weighed at the end of each day I can stand a little taller than I did yesterday.  As William Arthur Ward says, “Our words reveal our thoughts; manners mirror our self-esteem; our actions reflect our character; our habits predict the future.”
