1 Samuel 1-8

Then Hannah prayed and said:
       “My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high.
       My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.

“There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.”The bows of the warriors are broken,  but those who stumbled are armed with strength. Those who were full hire themselves out for food,
       but those who were hungry hunger no more.
       She who was barren has borne seven children,
       but she who has had many sons pines away. “The LORD brings death and makes alive;
       he brings down to the grave and raises up. The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust
       and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.
       “For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s; upon them he has set the world.

Silly me thought I would write the Bible study last night after Bill and I got back from Ecuador.  Sorry I am running a little late this morning.

Whenever we go to another country with Compassion Int’l and visit the people being helped there it gives me a fresh outlook on how good God has been and how much we in America have to give!  We had the privilege of meeting 2 of the children we sponsor, Brayan who is 5 and Gilberto who is 13 and one of each of their parents.  We also met some who have gone through the entire Compassion program and had the opportunity to see how God has changed their lives in dramatic ways.  Gilberto’s Mom, Rosa, asked us if we would please come back some time so she could invite us to their home, which made me want to cry!  I just couldn’t thank her enough for allowing us to be a part of their lives.  I feel as though I have made a new friend, we talked and laughed (through an interpreter of course- next time I will know Spanish) while Bill and Gilberto played soccer.

We are blessed and there is a reason God has chosen to bless us here, it is because we are to help others.  What other reason can you think of?  Seriously ladies, in light of eternity, what other reason is there that God would give us excess other than to find someone to help?  I don’t think we should feel guilty for what we have in America and I believe we are to take care of our own family first and then when God blesses us with excess we find that someone He is allowing us to bless, trust me it will bless you even more than it will them!
