Ruth 1:15-16

And she said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.”  But Ruth said: ” Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.”

Ruth chose Naomi, her people and most importantly her God.  Her decision changed her life forever and put her in the line of the genealogy of Christ.  The paths in life that we choose not only affect us they affect our families as well.  Take a look at Naomi; she could have decided to just stay in Moab for the rest of her life instead of going back to Bethlehem and as a result Ruth would never have really known God nor would she have been listed in the line of Christ.  It is so important to base our decisions on the will of God for our lives.

What about Orpah, Ruth’s sister in-law that decided to stay with her own people and the gods of her people?  The book of Ruth doesn’t say anymore about her so I decided to check it out.  Whereas Ruth is in the line of Christ, Orpah is believed to be the Mother of Goliath and his brothers.  Remember the story of David and Goliath?  Wow, what a difference their decisions made in their lives.  One family serves and loves God and the other defies Him and His people.

What decisions are you facing today?  I would challenge you to be sure that you seek God’s heart in your decision because the effects can be like a stone dropping in a pond, the ripples from your decision can last for generations.  God’s best is yours for the taking, don’t settle for anything other than His will for your life, whether it is a job you are about to take or someone you are going to marry or maybe a move you know God has in your life.  Make the right choice, ask God to give you the direction and the strength to follow Him!  The best is yet to come but you have to choose it!
