Joshua 7:7     And Joshua said, “Ah, Sovereign LORD, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!

This verse came after the Israelites had been chased off by the men of Ai right after the Israelites had taken Jericho.  They were so confident after the victory of Jericho but then this little town ran them off and killed 36 men and they had no clue why.

Have you ever known you were doing the will of God and you knew God had promised you your “Promised Land” and yet somewhere along the way you felt defeated.  Joshua responded much like we would have with, “we shouldn’t have wanted what you promised we should have just stayed on the other side of all of this because it would have been easier.”  Guess what, no it wouldn’t have been!

The problem was created because of lack of obedience, not the lack of God’s eagerness to bless.  Whether or not they were in the promise land or on the other side of the Jordan God still expected total obedience!  Achan had taken “spoil” from Jericho and God had told them not to touch it.  Achan had directly disobeyed God and the whole nation of Israel paid the price for it.

While we are in the process of following the will of God and receiving His blessing on our lives it is also vital that we are consciously obedient!  It isn’t that God doesn’t want to bless us it is that we are called to be Holy and obedient.  God is gracious and always good, He does require obedience in the process.

Don’t settle for the other side of Jordan in your life!  Go after all God has for you, the requirements will still be the same.  Stay on the other side of Jordan or head into the promise land full of God’s blessing, either way you still are required to follow God and be obedient.  It isn’t always easy, but the blessing of God on your life is worth all the struggles we go through in order to grow spiritually.  So, “choose you this day whom you will serve but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Let’s walk this walk of obedience together ladies, I am praying for you today that God will help you to be strong and walk the path he has chosen for you.
