Ladies Bible Study Sunday, January 15th The Truth Shall set You Free!

by | Jan 15, 2012

John 8:31-32  So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him,  “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

We cannot truly claim to be a follower of Christ if we are never in His word.  Without being in His Word we will also be void of truly knowing “truth”.  There are so many people who feel there are no “absolutes” in life, they show their ignorance by not being in The Word.  Yesterday I was choosing to have some “brainless” downtime and my daughter and I were sitting at the table with our laptops out and I decided to play a game of Family Feud on Facebook.  The question was: Name a book that you would never read all the way through!  I came up with Dictionary, Phonebook, Encyclopedia and Car Manual but I could not think of what the number one answer was, I was stumped and when the answer popped up Bible, I was appalled. It never crossed my mind that it would be Bible, why wouldn’t you want to read your Bible from cover to cover?

Our answers to life are in His word and that is where we find the truth that we are looking for.  It is not always found in a specific verse, it could be found through God just speaking directly to your heart as you learn more about Him and all that He has for life in His word.  The more you open yourself up to God and His wisdom the more you will know His truth and as Jesus says, “the truth shall set you free.”

We cannot walk with Christ if we are not daily learning more about Him.  The reason old married couples start to look alike over the years is because they have spent so much time together they become more alike.  If we want to look like Jesus then it can only be done by spending time with Him in His word!

My encouragement to you today is to spend time with Him in your Bible starting today.  Start with a few verses if you want in Psalms or Proverbs or think of the great women of the Bible and read their stories, or you can do like I do and start at the beginning and just take your time and read straight through.  I have to admit, when I get to the books of the prophets it is so deep I read a chapter in the Old Testament and then one in the New Testament to break it up a bit.  Pray for God’s guidance and don’t turn it into a chore, look at it as an adventure of reading God’s Journal He gave you to tell you more about Himself – what a GREAT God!  I love to read the books of Esther and Ruth when I am needing encouragement as a woman, they are great women of faith and yet as normal as we are.  Don’t miss another day of finding the treasure of what God has for you in His word today.
