It is Time to Give!

Luke 6:38    Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give unto your bosom.  For with t he same measure that you mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

It comes natural to all of us to give and receive gifts for Christmas and birthdays but what about giving to those outside your circle of people you love?  What about the man on the corner holding the sign saying he is homeless and needs a job or money?  What emotion stirs within you when you see someone like that?  What about the single Mom or Dad in the grocery store or at church that you see?  Who is it that you see that is down and out that could use a helping hand financially?

I love to give; I always have for some reason.  My children are the same way, I remember a time when my daughter Danielle gave a girl in her class half of all of her school supplies because some other children were making fun of the girl because she didn’t have any.  (Sometimes as a single Mom I had to pray for God’s provision when they gave like that, but God always supplied just like the verse says.)    It is not enough to just recognize the need in others we need to do what we can to show God’s love.

There are so many ways we can help others in need in this day and age!  A lot of them are standing on the street corner, there are church pantries to volunteer in and homeless shelters, we can start programs to help single parents and their children and there are organizations like Compassion International.  I personally recommend Compassion if you are looking to give to support children in dire need in other countries because I know the integrity of the company and I know that every penny given is accounted for.

We are a country that is truly blessed and I can see that so much more now after having travelled out of the country with Bill.  My daughter Candace bought Abby a Easy Bake Oven for Christmas and we were talking about the fact that we take those little things for granted and I have seen women in other countries who don’t even have something that basic to cook in.  It isn’t wrong for us to have conveniences it is just wrong for us to overlook extreme need when we are so blessed.  We have homeless people here in our country too so no matter where you look, if you look they are there and God gives us plenty of opportunity to show his love to others through giving.
