Psalm 12:2-4

Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?”

When I was little my Dad always used to tell me and my cousin Louise to “think twice before you say anything.”  Louise and I have always been “talkers” so he knew that there were so many words coming out of our mouths all the time that he better teach us as little girls to be careful what those words were!  Wise, wise man!  I have realized over the years just how wise those words were and just how much trouble we can get in if we don’t follow his rule.

Not to sound “old fashioned” but we really need to go back to sounding like ladies and at the same time though speaking truth.  I am not suggesting that we speak what people want to hear I am talking about speaking truth with grace and wisdom.  More than anything I want to become a woman who isn’t just known for speaking truth or speaking her mind but a woman who speaks with wisdom and grace.  There’s a lot of power in the female tongue, we cannot forget that!  We can use our words for good or we can use them to tear down.  Sometimes things need to be torn down but we need to know that we know that we know that our words come from God!  I certainly don’t want to be thought of as a woman who says one thing and means something else or tells something else later – flattering lips and a double heart are not attractive to anyone and certainly not to God!

More often than not our words need to be used to build up; we can build up our husbands, boyfriends (you should only have one or the other obviously), our children, and our children’s friends and get this – other women!  Woooooo, some of the meanest things that seem to come out of women’s mouths are things about other women!  We don’t trust each other, never really have and it is time to ask God to help us rise above that!  (I feel another Bible study coming on)  Seriously it begins with our words and in order for us to rise up and start making a difference we need to come together and guess what; it begins with you!  Don’t wait for the ladies in your church to say and do what they are supposed to say and do, set the example!

I challenge each of us today to ask God to show us where we need to work on our words, for us to take notice of our tones and specific verbiage.  I am praying today for God to show us how to be the women He has called us to be beginning with what comes out of our mouths!  I hope you will pray the same for each and everyone reading this today.
