Ladies Bible Study Tuesday, July 19th

First of all this morning I would like to apologize, Bill and I left to go out of town for the week last Monday and somehow with my planning my Bible stdies did not go out after last Friday.  We were without internet so I couldn’t fix it.  Sorry, I will be sure to not let that happen again!

Genesis 22:3a And Abraham rose up early in the morning

Genesis 22:14 In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

This chapter tells about the time that God told Abraham to take Isaac up to a mountain He would show him and sacrifice him there.  Sounds horrifying, but God didn’t want the sacrifice, nor did He require it, he wanted to see if Abraham was holding anything back.  Was Isaac more important to Abraham than God?  Would he trust God enough after all God had done in the past and all the promises he gave Abraham about Isaac or would he hold back His son?  That’s a pretty strong test!  The day my son had to have tubes put in his ears when he was just 18 months old, this “just happened” to be my devotions that morning!  Wow!  As I gave Brian to the nurse I had to peel his little arms from around my neck and then I could see him going down the hallway toward the operating room screaming, “MOMMY!!!!”  All I could think of were my devotions that morning and all I could say was, “Lord, if you choose to take him today, I will understand it is your will but I am going to cry my eyes out just the same!”  I knew God knew what was best for my son and I knew I had to give him to God, but I cried through the whole thing.  I cannot imagine what Abraham went through that day, notice God didn’t ask Sarah!  As women we are usually more protective and sometimes even a little more bull headed about “obedience” if we think maybe it’s going too far.   But through it all Abraham was obedient and do you notice, he didn’t dawdle to obey!  Abraham rose up early to obey, as tough as it was he did not put off obeying God.  He got right to it!

Then, when God stopped Abraham and gave him a ram to sacrifice Abraham said, “in the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.”  (or the Lord will provide.)  Notice, first came obedience and trusting God to ALWAYS know what is best and then the Lord provided.  Abraham didn’t have a fit or ask a bunch of questions why, he just obeyed.  I am not saying we cannot ask God “why”, but there are times to ask and times just to obey.  So, I would challenge you today, Don’t hold back!  Don’t hang onto anything that you should be giving over to God, after you have given all of yourself, give your family, your friends, your job, your finances and whatever else there might be, that you in your heart know you aren’t giving totally over to God.

“I believe in manicures. I believe in primping at leisure and lipstick. I believe in PINK. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” ~ Audrey Hepburn

NOTE:  She did NOT say the prettiest girls are the happiest!  It is truly the other way around!  God made you beautiful inside and out but the inside is what will shine the brightest!
