2 Chronicles 33:21

Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found:  for great is the wrath of the Lord that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do after all that is written in this book.

It is time to break that cycle! When Josiah became king he was only eight years old but he decided to seek God and to lead the people in a way that would please Him.  When the priests and Levites were overseeing the repairing of the House of the Lord they found “The Book of the Law of the Lord” that was given to Moses.  When he read it, he tore his clothes and repented for all that had been done wrong in the kingdom, he was horrified to think of how far from God the people had been led so he immediately sent someone to ask the prophetess what this meant for the future of the people.  Josiah was determined to stop the cycle of wrong, it wasn’t going to continue on his watch and God blessed him for it.

What cycles do you have in your family that needs to be broken?  Is there a cycle of abuse or maybe addictions, or cheating?  Or maybe it is something that doesn’t seem quite as “big of a deal” like Lying, Complacency to sin, Swearing, Pornography, not going to Church or reading your Bible.  What is it that you know in your heart is wrong but that’s “just the way you were raised”?  It’s time to ask God to break that cycle and to begin with you to be that change in your family!  Why would you settle for less than God’s best?  Why not go after all you can be in Christ and break those chains of bondage that have been set by the generations before you?

God will give you the strength you need to be set free on every level of your life – Spiritually, Emotionally, Physically and Mentally.  Give it to Him today and ask Him for His guidance, strength and wisdom to make whatever changes you have to make.  Your family and friends will forever be grateful for your stand and the difference you will make in all of their lives and their futures by helping to set them free from the, “that’s just the way that I am” rut!  Don’t get me wrong, their first response to the change may not be great but over time they will appreciate your willingness to follow God and do what is right.
