Joshua 1:8

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein:  For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

I amaze myself sometimes with the most ridiculous excuses to put off obeying God.  I was reading this verse and it just pierced my heart with conviction and yet I heard myself saying to God, “day and night, wow!  Do you know how much easier that would be Lord if I just had a nice enclosed porch or some quiet room like that where I could go and read in peace?  Our house is so full of people all the time that to really get all I can out of that whole day and night thing, a quiet room would make that easier to obey!”

See what I mean?  What kind of crazy thinking is that?  God, the Almighty God, is saying to be in His word day and night so I can do what He has called me to do and THEN He will make my way prosperous and THEN I will have good success.  These verses were given to Joshua out in the dessert and I want an enclosed porch?!  Silly me!  How often though do we all make those types of excuses?  God says do this and we say BUT if you would just do this or remove that or give me something else, then it would be easier and more comfortable for me to do those things God.

God asks for a little more time learning about Him so we can know and do His will better and our response is, not until (fill in the blank)   Because it isn’t convenient.  God says, “put me first and be obedient and I will bless your marriage or your finances” and the responses He often gets are things like, “if you would just change him or if I could just have that promotion.”  We have it backwards most of the time; obedience comes first THEN the blessing!  We cannot just put God on the shelf and only obey where and when it is convenient and still expect Him to come through on the blessing.  God wants our obedience above all else and when we are faithful in the little things He will move us on to the bigger and better things!  Stop putting off whatever it is that God has spoken to your heart about and start today!
