Pray for God’s Blessing Today

1 Chronicles 4:9-10  Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”  And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying,  “Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!”  So God granted him what he requested.

If you notice, Jabez didn’t have such a good start, his Mom named him “a pain”.  His name literally means – he will cause pain!  Nice!  How would you like that?  Back in Bible times they new what their names meant, it was a big deal, so how would you like everyone to know that your lot in life was to cause pain?  Look at his response though, instead of being a pain, he was more honorable than his brothers, he chose to be a blessing.  We do have a choice in how we choose to respond to the lot in life we have been given.  It is not always easy to rise above our circumstances but it is possible with God’s help.  Maybe you see someone else who is struggling who could use a helping hand of encouragement to help them rise above where they are and God is calling you to help draw them up.

Jabez not only chose to be a blessing he prayed and asked God to bless him in every way and also to help him to not cause pain and because of the attitude Jabez had God granted him his request!  There is nothing wrong with asking God to bless you indeed!  He wants you to ask to be blessed, but He also wants you to do it with the right attitude.  Don’t think you can just treat everyone else just any way you want and cause pain in their lives and then turn around and expect God to just be excited about blessing your behavior.  On the other hand as well, don’t hesitate to ask for God’s blessing on your life and if you have a problem with causing pain by gossiping, backstabbing, or some other form of just being mean ask him to help you!  He knows what we struggle with in our lives and he will bless you if you ask Him to help in those areas.  His goal is to help you realize all He created you to be.  If you haven’t read the book, “The Prayer of Jabez” by Bruce Wilkinson I would highly recommend it!  It explains these verses by far better than I can and it will change your life.

God wants to bless you and your family today, it is His hearts desire.  Are you in a position to be blessed, are you asking for His blessing?  God adores you and wants to bless you.
