Proverbs 21:21
Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.

Righteousness doesn’t just fall in your lap and kindness seems to be a lost art at times, just take a look at Facebook lately! We are to pursue righteousness (Definition: acting in accord with divine or moral law; free from guilt or sin.)! Will we achieve true righteousness here on earth? No, of course not because we are not perfect and we are human, but we are to pursue it in all that we do!

Think of how different your relationships would be if for example: in your marriage if you pursued righteousness you wouldn’t cheat on your spouse, you would honor him/her in a way that would please God, your love would become more selfless. How about in your job ~ if you pursued righteousness at work, you wouldn’t be spending hours on social media sights behind your bosses back, you would be fulfilling the time required, you would be honest etc. No matter what relationship you can think of whether personal or professional we are called to pursue behaving in a godly manner.

True kindness……… where do you find that these days? I am not talking about fake kindness, where you are nice to that person and then talk about them behind there backs the minute they walk out the door, I mean being genuinely kind! How different do you think your relationships would be if there was genuine kindness that just oozed out of you? What kinds of things do you say to your spouse that are just ridiculously unkind? Words stick! You cannot take your words back, once they are out there and they have cut someone they scar and you will have to work even harder to get that relationship on track! One of the most simple things you can add back into a struggling relationship is to vow to be as kind to each other as if you were just first dating and you wanted to win that person over! Do you still open the doors for her? Do you ever just buy her chocolate or have flowers delivered for no reason other than you love her and you want her to know she is special? Do you ever take him breakfast in bed? When is the last time you got a sitter and went on a date (Valentines Day doesn’t count here ~ that should be a given!) There is something seriously wrong with you and your relationship will struggle if you don’t want to date your spouse? I know money can be tight and it can be difficult but here are a couple ideas to consider:
If you need a sitter but don’t have money to spend on a sitter, if you don’t have a relative you can ask or trust, what about friends who have kids too, could you swap nights of watching each others kids?
If you don’t really have money for the date use your imagination ~ Bill and I went out once and scraped together some change for cokes from McDonalds (they are only $1 here) and we love walking around Lowe’s Home Improvement store so we went there and we sat at one of the outside patio table sets that were on display and talked for a while after walking around the store! It’s not about where you go, it is about just taking time for each other.
The point is to find time to focus on each other and to be nice! You know how to do it or you wouldn’t be married more than likely. If it is a work relationship you are struggling in, just try killing them with kindness today and see what happens?

We are called to strive for godliness and we are called to be genuinely kind. Think of what a different world we would live in if everyone was striving for that! We all know, everyone won’t, but there’s no better way to draw others to Him than by pursuing being more like Him in all we do!
