Sometimes It Takes More Than One Battle To Win The War

Judges 20:22-23
But the people, the men of Israel, took courage, and again formed the battle line in the same place where they had formed it on the first day. And the people of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until the evening. And they inquired of the Lord, “Shall we again draw near to fight against our brothers, the people of Benjamin?” And the Lord said, “Go up against them.”

The tribes of Israel had gone to the tribe of Benjamin to ask them to take care of the people who had sinned against God and the Levite who had spent the night in one of their villages. Some wicked men of the city had used and abused the Levites concubine and killed her. The Benjamites refused to “purge the evil” by giving up the men who did it so the other tribes had to fight the entire tribe. The first time they went against them, they were defeated and that is where we find them in the verses above. The verses after these state that they were defeated again so they went back to the Lord to ask again and they offered sacrifices and burnt offerings and the Lord told them to go up against them again and He would deliver them.

They were trying to do what was right, just maybe not in the right order but they were following God’s leading to purge the sin from the tribes of Israel. It can be pretty tough when you know you are doing what God has told you to do and you feel as though the enemy is running you over. Do you feel that way today? Don’t lose your hope! If you have followed the will of God, He is working on it and you will pull through and it will be better than it ever was before. Don’t turn and run from the enemy, whatever the enemy may be in your life. Know that God will deliver it all in to your hands and He will give you victory, but you need to hold on to all that He has shown you and told you to do. There are always battles or struggles in life, don’t be defeated by giving up. Keep fighting those battles until God hands you the victory He has in store for you! Don’t give up!

Ask God for His direction, ask Him for His strength and then pull yourself up and go after that battle with all that you have and all that He gives you! Shake off the old and focus on what lies in front of you, don’t focus on the loss, focus on the victory! Don’t turn around and run back to where you came from, God’s best for you is on the other side of where He is taking you! If the ‘grass looks greener’ somewhere else, just remind yourself of all of the nasty stuff that usually makes grass look that way! God’s plan for you is best! Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans for good and not for evil, plans to give you a future and a hope!” Hold on to your faith and believe that God will do all that He said He would do. He didn’t bring you to this point to just leave you there, He brought you to this point to move you forward in life. He loves you, pour your heart out to Him and hold on to Who you know He is as well! The best is truly yet to come!
