Stop For Just a Minute!

Psalm 46:10. “Be still, and know that I am God:  I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

How often are you still?  As women, it seems we have a tendency to take on too much at times, I know men do at times as well, but for some reason, women seem to take on the task of being wonder woman.  I am sure it probably stems from the fact that we tend to feel as though, we aren’t “enough” and yet sometimes we are “too much” so we are constantly trying to compensate.  Stop for just a moment!

Recently I have had the incredible opportunity to be a part of some “Zoom” meetings, (similar to Skype but designed for business) for training with the CEO and founder of Solle Naturals, an amazing Natural Supplement company that I have been apart of for a couple of years now.  These meetings happen to land at 4:30 our time here in Tennessee, which I have to admit is rarely convenient for me, but the fact that the founder of the company is willing to take the time to meet with just a handful of us to teach us more about the products and answer any questions we may have makes it seem not only disrespectful but foolish to miss!  Have you ever had the opportunity to meet someone or talk with someone that you felt honored to have taken the time for you?  This morning as I was sitting down to have my devotions, I had my coffee and toast and I stopped and wondered what the weather was going to be like today, so I picked up my phone.  Do you have the weather app on your phone or have you ever pulled weather.com up online?  Well, there are all sorts of videos on it, some are funny, some are newsworthy and some are weather-related and well the point is, I have pulled it up before in the morning and realized 20 minutes later that I hadn’t done anything else!  As I started to pull it up, a little voice in my head said, “the God of all the Universe, the Lord of Lords, King of Kings, the Almighty God, the one called ‘Wonderful and Counselor’ is expecting you to meet with Him.  Is there anything more important than that right now?  Can the weather app wait?  Yes, yes it can!

Years ago I determined to make sure I had my devotions first thing in the morning before anyone else was awake.  We used to have a lot of people living in our house so it was even more difficult to find my quiet time, so I started setting my alarm so I could get up before anyone else.  It’s not always easy, Bill is a late-night kind of person so sometimes I realize I am only going to get 5-6 hours of sleep, but if I personally don’t do it first thing, my day runs away with me and a million other things come up and my world becomes too loud to focus on God.  That sounds terrible, but the saying is true, “if satan can’t make you bad, he will make you busy!” ~Corrie Ten Boom.  I know it isn’t easy, especially if you are a Mom with small children, there’s just seemingly never time for anything, let alone peace and quiet!  Try to get what you can, for your own encouragement even, ask your husband to help.  Don’t beat yourself up over the fact that you are struggling to find time when you are raising small children, just pray for God to show you when, how, what ~ He will, and it is ok if right now you can only squeeze in a few verses here and there, just know that He loves you and is looking forward to having that time with you!  Don’t allow Satan to turn this into something that makes you feel defeated because you are struggling. Just talk to God about it and ask for His peace and direction.  If you are a single Mom and this seems like an impossible task, try even just reading one verse in Psalms each day. Stop for a moment and think of Who He is and that His desire is to build a relationship with you and to spend some time with you even if it is just a few verses and a short prayer, just don’t miss it!  He loves you and knows even better than you do where you are in life right now, so talk to Him about it!  The best is yet to come!
