Proverbs 3:24
If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

We have all had those nights where your mind is racing and you are concerned about one thing while you are making plans for God so He doesn’t have to figure out how to handle a situation or person in your life and then there’s always that other situation that you got yourself into that you aren’t sure if God will help you out of or not because it’s your own fault. As a result you can lose a lot of sleep in one night allowing Satan to fill your head with useless thoughts. Sometimes it’s tough because it’s hard to battle Satan when you are tired, thus the reason he wants to rob you of sleep as well as attack you while you are half asleep.

Years ago the people I worked with used to call me Scarlet because if someone brought up a problem I was facing my attitude was, “I will think about it tomorrow” if I had done all I could or if there was nothing I could do. I had been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia so sleep was precious and I couldn’t allow my mind to rob me of sleep because of things I could do nothing about. Let’s face it – there’s little any of us can do in the middle of the night about anything we are facing so why do we waste sleep time mulling it over? Save it for morning where you can focus on it with a fresh mind! If it is too much of a struggle to gain control over my thoughts I just lay there and pray about anything and everything I can think of until I fall asleep.

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” According to that verse we may be able to measure just how much we trust God in our situation if we can find enough peace to give it to Him and go to sleep trusting that He is the only one who can “fix it” anyhow.

I don’t know of any of us who don’t at least occasionally lose sleep over whatever it is we are facing but we need to learn to give it all to God. You will have a better perspective on life if you are getting the rest you need. God wants all of your hurts, frustrations and struggles in life and He wants you to learn to lean totally on Him. Next time you find yourself awake, struggling with your thoughts, stop for a moment and pray and give it to God, ask Him to give you His peace about it all and focus on something pleasant. Tell yourself that you will “think about it in the morning” when you may be able to do something about it and allow the God who never sleeps to work on it tonight.

Find your peace, day and night, in God. Trust Him to do what is best for you. Trust that His grace is sufficient and that His mercy for anything you have done is beyond anything you can comprehend. He has it all under control but you have to trust Him. Allow Him to do what you cannot do.
