The Temple of God

1 Corinthians 6:19-20   Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?  You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.  So Glorify God in your body.

God has really been speaking to me lately about the fact that I need to take better care of myself.  How do we expect to accomplish all that we are called to do in life for Him if we don’t take good care of our bodies?  I am going to start with some moderate exercises and watching better what I eat (no, I am not giving up chocolate I believe that could be a “pre-menopausal” drug – it could save a life!)  One of my biggest struggles with taking care of myself is that I never pamper myself and I really believe that as women we really need to take the time to relax and do some little things to pamper ourselves as a way of relieving stress.  Light a candle and read a good book, take a bubble bath or take the time for a pedicure.  I have walked around for almost a year now with a gift certificate for a massage that my girls gave me last year for my birthday because I couldn’t justify taking that much time out of a day for myself – hmmmmm.

If we want to take care of all of the things we feel called to do then we need to take care of ourselves.  Sometimes I think we miss this step because we somehow don’t really think we deserve it or we don’t think we are worth it.  You are a child of the King of Kings and you are loved.  God wants us to care for ourselves.  Take the time and begin with little things if you must but start somewhere.

Now another aspect of taking care of our bodies is taking a look at the verse before these, it says; “Flee from sexual immorality.  Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.”  Your body has been bought with the price of Jesus blood and the Holy Spirit resides within you so you have no business sinning against the Temple of the Holy Spirit.  God lives in you and He expects you to keep your bodies pure from sin if not for respect for yourself do it out of respect for Him.  If you struggle in this area I want you to stop for a moment and ask yourself “why”?  Were you abused or are you being abused?  Do you feel as though you don’t deserve to be treated any better than that or that you somehow cant really stop sexual immorality because that’s who you are?  Don’t believe Satan’s lies!  You are better than that because the Holy Spirit of God resides within you and Jesus has already given you victory and if this is being done to you – you deserve to be treated like the Princess you are!  Do not buy Satan’s lies and certainly do not live them out!  End it today!

Whatever it is God is speaking to you about today, take the time to make the change.  Take the time to pamper yourself.  If you need forgiveness or strength to overcome sexual sin ask Him for it, He is waiting to help you – reveal what you are struggling with to those you have sinned against and ask someone to be your accountability partner and walk with you so you can be used of God again.  God is a god of restoration and He loves you and wants His best for you but that will only come when you are truly walking in His light, grace and strength.  Be open today to listening to God’s voice and being obedient in all that you do.
