There is a Time to Give and a Time to Receive

Acts 20:35    In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Some people have almost as difficult a time receiving as others do giving.  There are times for both.  Do you have a need that someone else is willing to meet but because of pride you don’t want to receive their help?  Don’t rob someone else of the opportunity to be obedient to God.

Some people have as difficult a time giving as others do receiving!  If we are to follow Jesus example and the Word of God then giving needs to be a part of our every day lives.  Give your time, give His love, give His mercy and give for the needs of others!  How can we say we are full of God if we are unwilling to give?  I haven’t read any verses in the Bible that talks of selfishness as being a fruit of the Spirit of God yet, Nor do I believe I ever will.  There are so many ways to give, they are not all monetary but we are called to give financially as well.  Bill travels around the country helping Christian radio stations raise money so they can stay on the air, a lot of people love to listen to Christian radio and love the influence it has on their families but only about 3% of the people who listen give.  We have churches across America that could better serve God in their communities if people would give as they are called to.  I can’t drive very far around here without running into people on the streets selling Newspapers for the homeless to be able to have a place to live (it takes about 5 seconds to stop and give them some money).  How do you pass someone on the street with a need as you drive to Starbucks to grab a cup of coffee or one of their little pastries?

God has called us to give and as Jesus says, “it is more blessed to give than to receive” you will find the more you give the more blessed you will feel inside.  When it is your turn to receive do it knowing the blessing you are giving that person in return far exceeds whatever they are doing for you!  Allow God’s grace and love to flow through you today and ask Him how you can better serve Him by giving out of whatever resources He has blessed you with whether it is money, time, creativity, whatever it may be – make that blessing useful today!
