What About The Children?

Judges 2:10
And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.

Over and over the Israelites were told by God that they were to teach their children all of the things the Lord had done and the Law! If they had been doing what they were told in Joshua 1:8, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” They must not have even taught the children that much of what God had said and look what happened…… they died and the next generation didn’t know the Lord! Sound familiar?

We have a responsibility to teach the children! There are so many kids out there right now whose parents are that generation who don’t know the Lord, and we need to find ways to reach out to teach them who God is! It is so sad to me that there is such a shortage of Christian schools and with the route that public schools are going, the need is greater today than ever! It is our responsibility to find ways to make Christian school affordable and we need to find ways to reach out to the community to have opportunities to teach children the love of Christ so they will want to know Him and give their lives to Him. We are in the mess we are in today because too many children haven’t been taught and that influence is overwhelming even those who have been. We can tease ourselves all we want but negative influence seems to spread faster than positive for some reason, so we need to set our hearts to fight for the kids! Every child deserves to have someone who will love them and be willing to fight for them. Even bus ministry has fallen by the wayside for some reason, I guess everyone is “too busy” and bus ministry can be a tough and sometimes messy, time consuming thing, I know because I did it for years……. those kids were just so precious though!

What has happened to us that we stopped fighting for the children? There’s always room to volunteer or find a way to reach more children. I can’t even seem to find an AWANA program around here and we live in a huge bedroom community. I loved AWANA because the kids were getting the word of God embedded in their minds while they had all kinds of fun! Kids ministry is important even if the parents use it as a 2 hour babysitting service! We have to start somewhere! Luke 18:16, “But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.” I would like to encourage you today to find a way to help reach out to others today in some way. Maybe you can’t “do” for some reason, but you can “support” the ministry in your church for children. Pray and ask God what He would have you do today!
