1 Samuel 17:23
And whenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well, and the harmful spirit departed from him.

Once you have read the stories about King Saul it can serve as a great argument for the fact that women are not the only ones who go through times of strange, grumpy, unexplainable attitudes and crazy fits of anger. We call it hormones or menopause and for Saul it was a harmful Spirit from the Lord. Whatever we may call it we all need to find whatever it takes to set our moods aright when it happens.

Saul’s men knew that good praise and worship music is the place to start. I know for me that is where I have to begin. This time of year there’s music galore that most of us love to hear for the holidays that is cheerful and hope filled.

I was in town Wednesday running some errands and there are a few places that are difficult to get out of because of the traffic and the fact that the speed limit is 45 mph. One guy pulled out, making a left-hand turn and a woman was flying over the hill and even though he had made the turn with plenty of room and time between them, she honked her horn and put her window down to scream profanities at him. Seriously? Get a grip people! Why is so difficult for people these days to show simple courtesies without freaking out? There’s a lot of anger and impatience in the world these days, we all need to slow down a bit and really think about whether or not our reactions are warranted or over-reactions!  If you were out shopping today, how did you handle yourself in the crowd?

We can blame our attitudes on whatever we want to blame them on but we are still responsible for them. We are responsible for the words that come out of our mouths so fill your heart with praise and you will find that it is praise that comes out of your mouth. If you allow a grumbling spirit to fill your heart today then guess what will come out of your mouth? Don’t allow a crummy attitude to ruin your day and your relationships! Certainly don’t allow the crummy attitude of someone else to ruin your day either! I wouldn’t suggest though telling your husband when he is in the middle of a “Saul moment” that he has a harmful Spirit from the Lord, I would just slip on some praise and worship music and allow God to work through His music to calm the people around you.

We don’t have to settle for how we “feel” this morning we always have the opportunity to change our moods. I would encourage you to find what works for you. Ask God to show you what will work in your home to give it a peaceful and godly atmosphere.
